There are times in everybody’s life when they could really use a friend or someone to talk to.
I myself have had many of those times, and haven’t always had someone to talk to within my circle of family and friends. Social networking on the internet has solved a lot of this problem for me and others like me online, since it is very easy to find like minded people having similar experiences on various social networking websites and message boards. One message board that is helping connect people online who need a shoulder to type to is the Get Past It Forum, found at www.GetPastIt.com. I first found out about the Get Past It message board in 2005. The concept of the forum was of personal interest to me, because I have had to get past many problems in my life. I was drawn to this forum again recently after my mother passed away. This was a very tough time in my life, and I found myself once again reading the posts at the Get Past It Forum; which is why I decided to write this week's Forum Find post about the site.
On the GetPastIt.com homepage you will find the following message:
Our goal is to provide you with all the resources you need to get past any struggle you are dealing with. We plan to be the most comprehensive online self-help and support group site on the net. Sign-up for your free membership and join the rapid growing community!
There are currently over 16,000 members of the Get Past it Forum, helping each other through life one message at a time. This message board is a good place if you have a personal problem, need to vent, want to “spill your guts”, or get other people’s advice on a variety of topics.
You will find the main topics of the message board are:
Addiction
Alternative Lifestyles
Disorders and Conditions
Family Issues
Men's Lounge
Mental Health
Professional Help
Relationships
School
Self Improvement
Singles and Dating
Trouble with the Law
Women's Lounge
And there are other interesting topics such as:
New Member Introductions
Poll Of The Week
Need a Laugh?
Confessions
Vent!
One of the best thing about this message board is the fact that it has so many sub topics to post to as well, which gives you a complete resource for whatever problem you might be facing at any time in your life.
You can find sub topics such as:
Avoid Traffic Tickets
Parenting Style
Words of Wisdom
Workaholics
Break-Ups
Single Life
Fatherhood
Ask a Female
Sleep Issues
Phobias
Anger Management
Gay, Lesbian, and Bi issues.
And much, much more!
There are a lot of messages on this message board from over the years that a person could read and learn from without having to join the forum as a registered member. Being a registered member however does give you a nice profile such as mine here which has a journal, private messaging, and more. This makes the site feel a bit more like a social networking community rather than a forum, and the colors of the site are very soothing. The whole atmosphere of GetPastIt.com has a nice feel to it and this makes it a bit easier to share your problems and seek advice. Brian, the owner of the site is very helpful to all of the members, and he has done a fantastic job with the site in general. The look and feel, the extensive selection of topics to discuss, and the full member profile makes for a good user experience.
Although there are many members to this forum, some topics have very little posts in them though they have a lot of people viewing them.
It seems as though people are shy to discuss certain topics, or may be a bit embarrassed to ask for help in getting past certain problems. (If you are looking for help with a certain problem and are too shy to post on Get Past It, you might want to take a look at eHow.com.) You will also find that there are dedicated members of the Get Past It Forum that are eager to help others in the world to get past the problems they are facing in their life.
I give GetPastIt.com a thumbs up for a site well done, and two thumbs up for making a difference in the world using the internet!
This is one of my favorite message boards to surf online and I hope it becomes one of yours too. Stay well until the next post and thank you so much for reading!
